Notes taken by Craig Updegrove from talk with his

Uncle Clay Updegrove regarding the Updegrove family.

July 1, 1983 (notes have been edited)

Dorothy most like Sadie, very much the mother to them - stayed around home, helping Sadie the most - doing all the cooking, sewing, community. Sadie not a shy person, became invalid because had bad legs like Earl, like her mother and other women in that family. Sadie’s youngest sister was the worst. Having so many babies, she “ruptured” badly.

Clay most like Ira in woodworking, coal mining and drinking. He (Ira) would drink anything - go down to saloon, come back 9-10 and go to bed. Had wine around home though did most of his drinking away. Slowed down in later years.
